  • Consumer Reports has some good advice on selling gold:
“The Consumer Reports Money Adviser compared what one of the television companies offered for a gold band a couple of years ago with what a local jeweler and an on-line gold buyer would pay, the TV company paid a much lower price. Instead, take your gold to a reputable jeweler in your area for an appraisal. Note the carat of the metal, and ask the jeweler to tell you the weight in pennyweights or troy ounces. Use this online calculator to figure out the value based on the price of gold that day. Then quickly (because prices fluctuate) call several jewelry or coin stores and ask how much they pay for gold. Aim to get about 85 percent of what you calculated it’s worth. “

  • They want to make money from ya.Ya buy A gold neckleace from macy’s for $60 ya take it to one of those cash for gold places they buy it from ya for $11 .It’s really only worth $18 they make A $7 profit from ya.

  • Try the Silver and Gold Exchange. They have a live price chart showing what they pay on their website at http://Silver and Gold Exchange.com They also pay a lot more than jewelers. They are safe to deal with as they are Better Business Bureau Accredited and they do not play games like send out a check first and make you get it back within a few days or lose your gold.
